Description:
The Slate Belt Heritage Center collects, preserves, interprets, and presents the history, culture, and industry of the slate region of Pennsylvania.
The Heritage Center invites you to journey to hometown America. Experience the warmth of an Italian kitchen, the comfort of a Cornish parlor, the craft of Welsh artisans, and the community pride in our handsome 1907 town hall and firehouse. Follow immigrant ancestors from the earliest Lenape, Pennsylvania Dutch, and Scots-Irish settlers to the most recent Americans, and connect with your own ethnic traditions and family roots through our interactive exhibits, programs, and publications.
Enjoy the one-of a-kind Homefront Magazine collection with its personal news, pictures, and letters from the folks at home to their servicemen and servicewomen during WWII. Enter the slaters’ world and see how they transformed a flat gray rock into useful and beautiful products that were shipped around the world. Be amazed at the old clock tower and its hidden uses!
The Heritage Center invites you to join the conversation and share your thoughts through our regular programming, special events, and volunteer opportunities.
