Description:

This new Northampton County organization plans to preserve and share the area’s rich history, folklore, arts, and humanities past and present. Members have created the Bell Tower Cultural Center, a vibrant gathering place and art center located in the former Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Martins Creek, in Bangor. Their historic cemetery contains the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers and other local notables, and they are neighbors to the Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum, named for Alexander Hunter, who settled the area between Martins Creek and Richmond in 1728, and James Martin, one of the first county commissioners.

ABOUT:

In 1864, a cornerstone was laid for a small rural church outside the village of Martins Creek, Pennsylvania, known today as Three Church Hill. The Civil War was raging and Abraham Lincoln would be assassinated a year later. In 1864, both Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell were teenagers. Henry Ford was a three-year-old toddler. To travel from Easton to Philadelphia one would have to travel on foot, by horse, or by boat.

Throughout its history, this small rural church offered a place of quiet contemplation and prayer. In an age of “Knock-it-Down and Pave-it-Over,” Three Church Hill Arts & Historical Society hopes to keep this cherished building standing as a reminder of the wellbeing it provided and the rich opportunities we hope to offer the community within its sturdy walls.

Visit throughout the year for a series of arts, culture, and history programs and events for all ages!
