Description:

Nestled into the hillside on Powder Valley Road in Upper Milford Township is the Schubert-Graber Log-Post Shop. It is a circa 1760’s log building. A unique feature of the building is that the vertical corner posts are mortised to receive the tenoned horizontal logs. The early usage of the building is unclear, but it is thought that Melchior Schubert, (a Schwenkfelder cooper), may have used it for his business or that Christopher Melchior, a grandson, may have used it for his wool business. It was also used as a home for a period of time. The land stayed in the Schubert family for many generations. It is stop #4 on the Lehigh County Log Cabin Trail. The shop was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in December 2018.
At the present time, no one is allowed inside the building because of its condition. People can drive by and/or park on the grassy area and view the building from the outside. Hivel Und Dahl (Pa. German for hill and valley) Preservation Society wants to restore the building.

When restored, the Schubert-Graber Log-Post Shop will be available for our organization’s meetings and events. In addition, there are many ways the community will be able to use the building – school tours, workshops, community events, etc.

Now we are working with contractors on restoration plans and costs. We need financial aid to complete the restoration. We do have an outdoor event at the shop each summer.

Special Events:  Usually one event on site in late summer or early fall.

Year-round programs:  Our organization meets quarterly on the last Tuesday of March, June, September and November at 7 p.m. in the Upper Milford Township Building.
