Description:

Our historical society preserves the heritage of the towns of Alburtis, Lock Ridge, and surrounding areas that were once centers of industry and home to the Thomas Iron Company, Lock Ridge Furnace, key iron ore mines, and a local railroad hub.

The society is headquartered in the Memorial Presbyterian Church at the corner of Church and Franklin Streets. Visitors to our museum can view a restored carriage built by the Schuler Carriage Works at the turn of the 20th century and a rich photograph collection of the town from the early 1900s.

We also offer a series of tours that are available during Open Houses (usually the second Saturday of the month from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM) or by appointment. We are updating a historic property tour that winds its way through downtown Alburtis and features fascinating stories about homes, families, and businesses from a bygone era. Industrial history buffs can schedule a tour of the Thomas Iron Works at Lock Ridge Furnace in Lock Ridge Park, or arrange for a guided hike to Rittenhouse Gap, home to a huge mining expanse in the 1800s and 1900s.

Please contact us to schedule any of these group tours. Or visit our Facebook page for information on upcoming special events.

Also be sure to pay a visit to two of our beautiful parks. Alburtis Park is the Lehigh Valley’s home for country music concerts for the whole family. There has been music in the park since a group of Civil War veterans first started playing as the Alburtis Band. Today, people come from all over the Lehigh Valley for home-cooked food, bingo, music, and old-fashioned family entertainment. Lock Ridge Park is home to the Furnace Museum and also draws crowds of families and photographers in spring when the bluebells are in bloom.
