Description:

Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society (NCHGS) has been a gathering place to explore art, culture, and American history made in Northampton County since 1906. Guests are invited to visit our sites to enjoy family-friendly activities, programs, exhibitions, events, and summer history camp. Private docent- led tours, free or discounted tours for schools and groups, and site rentals for parties and weddings are available for each. We host Historic Walking Tours of downtown Easton twice per month – on second Saturdays at 1:00 and at 6:00 pm during Easton Out Loud: Fourth Fridays – plus special themed tours throughout the year.

Our flagship Sigal Museum is home to our significant collection of American Indian artifacts, decorative arts, textiles, farming implements, and exquisite colonial and Victorian-era furniture. We also offer a series of special exhibitions and regional artist showcases. Visitors enjoy a rich series of engaging programs focusing on local and American history.

The Jane S. Moyer Library and Society Archives provides students, researchers, writers, and genealogists with access to over 5,000 books, 10,000 manuscript items, 6,000 surname files, 2,000 history vertical files, 120,000 photographs, thousands of maps, drawings, ephemera, and architectural plans detailing the history and families of Northampton County, PA.

Our three historic structures and garden offer innovative ways to understand the past. The 1753 Bachmann Publick House continues to be the heart of Easton. Intimate colonial dinner theater performances by the Bachmann Players and programs such as beer and cider tastings in the tavern room are offered throughout the year. The romantic Mixsell-Illick House showcases the Victorian era with events such as elegant teas or programs on our historic fashion collection. The 1807 Jacob Nicholas House, named for its former Durham boat captain owner, is a rare example of a working class family home. And the restored Kressler Garden provides our visitors with a space of respite in our bustling downtown location.
